Back Soon Oil On Canvas 16 x20 $400 framed

Two beach chairs, rolling waves, plenty of sand, thus sets the stage for a relaxing summer day at the beach. In this case a wind from the north that stirs up the lake and brings the waves onto the shore. This painting done with a palette knife is from Odgen Dunes-a bedroom beach community saddled within the boundaries of the Indiana National Seashore.

Chicago Skyline Panorama oil on canvas 8 x 24 $250

This view of Chicago from the lake through Grant Park was done with palette knife. The blurred edges of the skyscrapers blends with the atmosphere lending a somewhat soft feel to this landscape. Several sailboats capture the breeze off the lake. The painting is gallery wrapped but is framed out by oak edging.

At the Beach Oil on Board 8 x10 NFS

This painting is based on a painting done by a fellow artist and a teacher Liz Wall. I had changed it somewhat placing three children, rather than an infant and older child running in the water, hanging by mom. The general color are similar although I have added a brighter blue and turbulence to the water and more yellow to the beach, but the credits belong to hr for the general theme. I thought is would be fun to take a painting I like and then adjust it-this was all done with palette knife and done rather loosely. As it is based on another artists work it is not for sale.
My new photographic setup is complete and the photos are better. You may be seeing some previous posts here for the next week or two as some of the previously posted work had some glare. New work will also be posted as well.
Thanks for your patience and your comments and emails are always welcome.

Bella oil on canvas 8 x10

Bella was done with brush. Compared to the previous posting you will note how the shape of the head became more precise. When I do the underpainting I am mainly looking for relationships. I want it to be loose and not stiffly painted. Occasionally I will do one and decide I don't like it and will change the composition completely In this case I noticed that the head and face needed additional constructions and alterations in shape-and it came out ok.
Perhaps I may post the reference photo for some of these paintings to demonstrate the changes that one makes in the transition to painting.
I am awaiting some photo equipment so my postings will be on hiatus for a few days. I have been unhappy with the reproduction of color of some of the postings and will resume again soon.
thanks for stopping by

Bella -early step oil on canvas 8 x10

This is the second painting part of a commission. This is the same King Charles Cavalier but from a different photo. In the early steps is is very loose-just looking for relationships of light and dark and general proportions. After selection of composition this is the most important aspect for it will determine later whether or not the painting appears real.

Puppy Love 8x10 oil on board (sold-maybe)

I had posted the intermediate step before the initial step and therefore went straight to this finished painting. The colors are a bit muted by the light of the camera-this will soon be rectified as I have ordered a lighting setup which should improve the quality of the photos-some may reappear on the blog to demonstrate the differences in lighting may make on the painting. Again this is part of a commission-two paintings done and one may be left-on the other hand may want both.

Puppy Love unfinished 1 oil on canvas 8 x 10

This is again a step series into showing the evolution of a painting-in this case a young King Cavalier Spaniel-wrapped in a blanket in its new home. This one of a series of two, part of a commission. One for the commission and the other for sale. Will let the owner decide which of the two she enjoys the most. The underpainting was done with magenta. Has started to 'block in' some of the larger color areas. Watch how the painting will develop over the next two postings. All with brush thus far.

Awaiting Calmer Waters Oil on Canvas 11x14 $250

This is from the shore of Lake Michigan by the Indiana National seashore. Kayaks are often left on the beach for weeks at a time awaiting calmer water. When the wind is from the north, as it is here, it is too rough to take them out, but on calm waters days it is both relaxing as well as invigorating. This was done entirely with palette knife.
